X-MEN FIRST CLASS (DVD and Blu-Ray 9/9/2011)

James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender Erik Lehnsher, and a very well casted Kevin Bacon as Sabastian Shaw take us to the beginning of the X-MEN, a time leading to Professor X and Magneto, the origin of Cerebro , the first Black Bird, and when Beast was not blue. Most hardcore X-fans dislike the fact that this is not the actual “First Class” with Cyclops and Jean Gray and the others. Hollywood already touched on that story and I felt that this story was a very good Hollywood adaptation. Of course with the exception of a few cheesy and forgotten characters like Angel and Riptide as well as a few not so good moments, the good far outweighed the bad.

Set in the sixties the audience gets to see the friendship develop between Charles and Erik as they seek out other mutants preparing for when homo-sapiens discover and fear homo-superior and the start of an ongoing battle between the X-men and Magneto and the Brotherhood of Mutants.

THOR (DVD and Blu-Ray 9/13/2011)

Chris Hemsworth  as a self-centered arrogant god of thunder is banished from Asgard to Midgard (Earth) to learn that there are things more important than himself and his Salon Selective flowing blond hair gets whacked by the side of a vehicle driven by Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, when he lands on Earth. The exact way most Norse gods meet their human love interests.

This was a great movie with all the wonderful things that one would expect to see when they go on a trip to Asgard; a rainbow bridge, lots of Vikings feasting and drinking mead, a big castle, and of course the occasional Frost Giant. Of course Frost Giants do not live at Asgard but they do appear in the movie.

I almost forgot Tom Hiddleston portrays a very excellent Loki who is Thor’s half brother, the god of mischief.

STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE SAGA (Blu-Ray 9/16/2011)

We all know about Star Wars. What this is, is just another re-release of the episodes 4, 5, and 6 and the first re-release of episodes 1, 2, and 3. This Blu-Ray release includes all six films, however not the original 4, 5, and 6 but the special edition, sort of. This is a special special edition. That means that once again George Lucas could not leave well enough alone.  He has made more changes in this hi-def release of Star Wars, that’s right hardcore fans, more things that we loved about the original trilogy have been stripped away with the excuse of “I am finally making it the way I have always envisioned.”  What a load of crap. As a friend of mine said, “if George keeps going on like this, by the time he releases the holographic editions the Empire will be the winners.”

I am excited to see these movies in high definition with 6.1 surround sound so I will probably get this set so I will just have to suck it up and deal with the changes. The extra features include audio commentary, audio commentary, audio commentary, and more audio commentary with some never before seen footage and outtakes.

I’m done with the re-re-releases. I’m sticking with my original VHS copies.
